Our Finest
The Suncoast Chess Club had the honour of hosting the 2022 Suncoast Junior Invitational Chess tournament. The tournament was first established by Peter Cam and hosted by the Noosa Chess Club in 2020-2021. It is a highly prestigious event and is by invitation only for elite junior players on the Sunshine Coast. The trophy was won by Patrick Ascott in 2020 and by Jett Bruntnell in 2021.
The Brave
Twelve of the most talented and committed chess players from Sunshine Coast were selected to attend this year’s competition. Congratulations to Logan Ruskin, Noah Kint, Sebastian Roach, Jett Brutnell, Alder Vogen, Aleksander Becker, Liam MacFarlane, James Vaughan, Lacey Pohle, Issac McKinlay, Joshua Burdett-Cluer and Harvey Pearse on being selected.
The Play Off
The tournament was held on Sunday 27th November at the Suncoast Chess Club in Buderim. The event was contested over 6 rounds, with a time control of 20 minutes.
The Winners
it was a challenging tournament with some fierce competition with the finals standings as follows:
- 1st place Logan Ruskin (KWSC)
- 2nd place Jett Bruntell (SCGS)
- 3rd place Aleksander Becker (SCGS) (on tie break)
