Hearken, noble lords and ladies of the chequered field!

📜 The Tale of the Blind Pigs

In the chronicles of chess, the Blind Pigs arose as a fearsome stratagem.

When two rooks, side by side, descend upon the seventh rank, they are likened unto swine feasting blindly in the enemy’s granary.

These “Blind Pigs” devour pawns and pieces alike, heedless of peril, laying waste to the foe’s camp.

Though ungainly in name, their power is dread and their hunger insatiable, oft bringing swift ruin to the opposing king’s fortress.

📯 The Invitation

Come forth, ye gallant players, to prove thy mettle in this contest most noble!

Let thy rooks, those Blind Pigs, storm the granary with tusks of iron.

The tournament shall be held in the spirit of chivalry, with honor, wit, and mirth aplenty. Victors shall be crowned with glory, and tales of their triumph sung in the halls of memory.

Frederick Henry Wise Blitz Chess Tournament

Hear ye, hear ye, noble chess enthusiasts, knights of the board, and seekers of swift victory!

We summon thee to the Frederick Henry Wise Blitz Chess Tournament, a grand contest of rapid wits, to unfold. Honouring the adventurous Frederick Henry Wise, this blitz shall feature lightning games with mere minutes per battle. Prizes of gold and glory await—all ranks welcome!

Harken to the saga of our patron: Born in Cornwall's shires, Wise ventured to Australia in the mid-19th century, amid gold rushes of the 1850s, joining Cornish miners fleeing home's mining woes for fortunes in Victoria's fields like Ballarat.

When gold dimmed, he turned to husbandry. In April 1901, he bought 160 acres on Buderim Mountain near Maroochydore, Queensland, from Gustav Adolph Riebe for £800. With son Richard, he named it Palmyra—perchance after a migrant ship. First selected in 1881 for £60, Wise forged it into a thriving farm of melons and corn.

Known later as Wises Farm, it endured o'er 120 years in the family: to grandson Bill of Buderim, then great-grandson Peter Wise (1941–2024), who tilled it till death and writ This Land Is My Land! (2013) on their lore. The Cornish homestead echoes in tales. In 2022, 'twas sold for urban growth, ending its pastoral days.

📜 The Call to Contest   Come forth, ye knights of calculation and lords of foresight, to engage in rapid trials of cunning. The board shall be thy battlefield, the clock thy relentless foe, and victory thy crown.

✝️ Scripture for Strength "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." — Revelation 12:9

A Royal Summons to the Realm of the Rooks

  Hear Ye, Hear Ye

Hear ye, hear ye, all knights of the chequered realm, all sages of strategy, and all wanderers who seek glory through wit and valour.
By decree of the Tournament Steward, thou art hereby called to assemble for a grand contest of mind and mettle:

Where each noble challenger shall be granted ten minutes upon the royal clock to wage swift and cunning battle.

Let the board be thy battlefield, the pieces thy loyal retinue, and every gambit a clash of arms beneath the vaulted halls of honour.
In this realm, the humble pawn may rise as hero, the knight may leap to legend, and the rook—steadfast guardian of the realm—shall thunder down its ranks like a war-chariot of old.

To set our hearts in steadfast purpose, we recall the ancient words:

“For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.”
— Psalm 61:3 (KJV)
